This was a very limited week in class with all the important activities taking place in our school and in the community.  Some students will need to catch up in the work missed.

Math 10 - I would like to wrap up the unit on Earning Income so we can have a test next week (Date: TBA).

Some students find it very difficult to calculate the number of hours worked.

Example:
How many hours did this person work (show in decimal form):
Monday 8:45 - 5:15

Students need to remember that:
15 minutes = 0.25 hours
30 min. = 0.5 hours
45 min. = 0.75 hours

Answer: 8.5 hours

The unit project wraps up the topic with a real life exercise (2 page handout)  This project requires the tax table  from Revenue Canada link (I can provide a paper copy if needed).  Students will calculate hours worked, deductions, and issue paycheques in the project.  I've set the deadline for next Thursday and I've offered to mark the "work hours" part of the project before students go on to calculate deductions (because if this part is wrong, the whole project will be incorrect).

Next Unit: Trigonometry

Tech 10: Students have completed Day 7 of their 10 day cycle.  If you are behind, plan some extra time at noon or after school.

Computer Applications 11:
Students are completing Chapter 4 in excel.  The unit project is next.  Already, I have some students complete all of this and move on to the Excel Spreadsheet Activities.
